Almost summer…and hello SCUBA Show!

Well, it’s the same old thing, time flies. It feels like winter just ended and suddenly Memorial Day is this weekend! I have been working hard on new goodies for the SCUBA show June 8th & 9th. One of my priorities this year is to have some fun nudibranch jewelry, both earrings and pendants. I had planned on doing that but really got inspired by a recent custom order from a past customer. I was put to the “challenge” to make a bead of a nudi that is not yet identified. Sometimes this is not doable, but this seemed like a good challenge bead. Above is the real and the Jujee version.

Another series I am working on are my new “wide angle” beads. These will be finished with an arrangement of accent beads dangling under the bead and a clasp/bail that will make it easy to transition from a chain, or cord or what ever you want to wear it with. This is just a bead “tease”….visit me at the SCUBA show to see the finished pendants! I hope to see many familiar faces, and friends, both old and new at the show!

Welcome Springtime! Hello Las Vegas, Orange County and Los Angeles!

Next stop, Las Vegas for the annual Glass Craft Expo on April 5th through the 7th at the Sout Point Hotel. We (me and my sister Lisa) will be in our usual booth, C1, in the bead bazaar section of the expo. This is a fantastic show for glass artists and enthusiasts! And always a fun weekend for Lisa and me! What’s new this year? Well, I have my usuals along with a lovely selection of fresh fishes with matching bead sets, fun new color shell sets and a new collection of kitty earrings to mix and match and make your own pair!

So where are the photos?? I have been so busy getting all this together that I haven’t had the time to take pics YET, but promise to get photos up here when I return from my show.

What’s next after Vegas you ask? Art of Adorning the Bead in Orange County on April 27th and the LA Spring Bead Bazaar on April 28th. Busy month! So I hope to see you at one of the many shows, or be sure to email me with any questions.

It’s that time of the new year again….busy, busy, getting ready for many shows. Tucson Best Bead Show will be the first one on my list. This year I will be inside the mail hall, booth G-204. I am very excited about this move, especially because I will stay warm!

Over the holiday I made a black bear for a friend of mine who has a house up in the mountains. I had fun making the bear and it led to making many more, including a new polar bear design and a panda! I will be “debuting” these cuties at the Tucson show. In addition to the bears, there is always room for another frog. This little guy below is inspired by the fact that I will actually be able to watch the entire Superbowl game!

What’s next after Tucson? VEGAS! Then the local spring shows and, even though June seems far away, the SCUBA show is just around the corner. Check out my new 2013 schedule! I hope to see you at one of my shows! And check out my Etsy, I have some jewelry up for sale

I am happy to report I actually have a few items listed on Etsy! Including these cute little fish earrings and my “Cappuccino” fish necklace! I have plenty more, just haven’t gotten it all up on my site yet.

I will be working over the next couple of days to post on my website gallery as well as a few more items on Etsy. Please check back…I mean it!

Hi again! Yep, been a while, so sorry about that…again. It is a very busy time as I am getting ready for the L.A. Bead Society Fall Bazaar this Sunday, October 28th at the Culver City Veteran’s Hall. The show goes from 10 to 5pm and it’s always stock full of goodies. I will be back in my (almost) usual spot. I’m the second booth in the “breezeway” as you enter the auditorium. Be sure to stop by and check out the new goodies!

Next weekend I will be heading up to Oakland for the annual BABE! Show, November 3rd & 4th. This is a huge show at the Marriott in downtown Oakland. Lots of vendors, lots of glass beads and lots of fun! I always look forward to this show and seeing my NorCal bead buddies.

The following weekend (told ya it was busy!) I will be having my annual how show along with my sister, Lisa and good friend Mary Ann Groark. Lisa will be selling her fused glass pieces and Mary Ann will have her amazing metal crafted jewelry. Maya will also be there selling her handmade kid purses as well as “repping” her Aunt Leslie’s line of handbags (for adults).

After all of that, it will be the all about the holidays. Crazy! It’s 80° here in Redondo today. Hard to believe we will get trick or treaters in a few days…and then start thinking about roasting turkeys! But I do like the warm weather, so no complaints here.

I know I say this ALL of the time, but I will try to get a few items up on Esty before the holidays. I have some very nice wine bottle stoppers that make great gifts. Along with some new (below), less expensive “Korky Kritters”.

Thanks again to Penny & Jean for having me to the Let it Bead studio to teach in early October! I had a really fun weekend and it was great to see you all again and meet my new friends in Arizona! You are an awesome group of gals!

Where did the summer go?

Well, actually I guess it is still very much summer according to the weather, but it’s weird to think is practically September already! We are lucky to be close to the ocean and not have the triple digit temps here, but it is still quite warm. Not as warm as the Sea of Cortez which I recently returned from after a glorious week of diving from the Rocio Del Mar and best of all, swimming with whale sharks! What an amazing experience that was! This photo (above) was taken by Roger….who was lucky enough to have an hour swim with his own “personal” whale shark! A few weeks before our trip I was keeping very busy with the ISGB Gathering in Seattle and then the San Diego Bead Society show. Thank you

to all who came by my booth! I was excited about our upcoming holiday and made my first whale shark bead. I was happy with this one, which sold at my show, but I can’t wait to make more! Now that I have seen them up close and a personal, I have more detail to add to my next one.

Another design I am working on is my “Over/Under” series. This was my second one (SOLD), still in the prototype stage, but will work on more of this design.

My upcoming shows for the rest of this year have not been inked, but most likely I will be at the L.A. Bead Society show on October 28th and most likely BABE! in November. I will update my show schedule page as soon as these are inked shows. I am excited to be teaching at the ASGB in Glendale, AZ in October. I had an incredibly fun class up in Seattle and look forward to doing that again!

In the mean time, I will be updating my etsy and gallery pages. I know, I always say that. One of these times, I am actually going to do it! Please check back soon!

Summer at the beach...

I love summer! I know that living here in So Cal is kind of like living in summer most of the year. But there is a whole different feel. I like hearing the kids playing, I love the longer days of sunlight and all the fresh, wonderful fruits and veggies in their peak time. Summer is just a nice time of year. But half way through it gets to be busy time for me.

This year I will be teaching and attending the ISGB Gathering in Seattle, WA. This will be my 4th Gathering and I look forward to the conference as well as hanging with my good friend, Hayley Tsang Sather. Hayley lives in San Francisco, so we don’t get to see each other often. But we make the most of our weekend with the conference, plus wining and dining. (and with wining, I don’t mean complaining!)

Okay, enough of all that personal stuff, what the heck have I been working on?? Recently I made this very cool bottle stopper that I call California Kelp Forest. I also took this very pretty purple turtle bead and created a fun copper and amethyst crystal necklace.

I have quite a few pieces that will be featured in Bead Studio Magazine in the next few months. So please check that out too! One of these days… (sigh)....I will get more bead pics up on my gallery page.

Upcoming shows….I will be showing at the Gathering bead bazaar in Seattle on July 28th. This show free admission and is open to the public. It is ALL lamp work artists! no pearls, no imports, so findings….all GLASS! It’s pretty amazing and there is no other show like it in the world! The following weekend I will back at the San Diego Bead Society annual bead bazaar on August 4th & 5th. Always a fun show. So stop by if you are anywhere near by and say hello. Always tons more at my booth than what I have on the website!

Spring Shows!

What an incredibly, busy time this is for me! The Orange County Bead Society show at Bowers Museum is this Saturday, April 28th from 10 - 4pm. Then just a short week later is the Long Beach SCUBA show, which is my biggest, busiest jewelry show of the year! The SCUBA show is a month earlier than it’s usual June time slot. So I am doing my best to make beads, then jewelry, more beads, more jewelry…..

I have been having fun making beads on keys. This is a fun, easy piece to have. String it up on a ribbon one day, put it on a chain the next! I am also getting a few tutorials together for Bead Design Studio Magazine, (my favorite bead mag!) so stay tuned for that! I will be updating my website (promise!!) after the SCUBA show is over.

Although my website may need a bit of attention, my show schedule is all up to date. So if I’m in your area soon, stop by the booth and say hello!

Las Vegas, here we come!

Spring is almost here and that mean it’s busy time for me! My next show is the GlassCraft Expo in Las Vegas coming up at the end of this month, March 30th to April 1st. As always I will be in booth C1 in the bead bazaar area. Check out my new little birds, including penguins and blue boobies!!

Another fun bead created recently is my whimsical, yet maybe a little wrong, Frog & Duck bead. This was meant to be a little frog playing in his pool with his duck toy. But it has had other activities linked to it. This bead has sold…but I just may make another, if persuaded!

April is a very busy month. I have the OC Bead Society show on April 28th, then the following weekend, May 5th & 6th, is the SCUBA show. The SCUBA show is a month early this year, so I will be keeping very busy making beads as fast as I can then getting them strung up for the show! Kind of crazy but that’s the way it worked out this year. Sorry to anyone expecting to see me at the L.A. bead show….just not enough time…and beads!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well here it is, the last day of this year. And the first time I have posted since July??? ooops. Kind of let this go for a while. So, excuses...my computer was flaking on me a lot (no really, it was!) and I was on my ipad more than the computer and I can’t update from that. Good news, I recently got a new computer!

And then there’s the kitties. We added one more to our group in September (4 total now) and she is sooo adorable! Nikki (posing in Santa hat) is now 8 months old and just as cute as can be, but she is a handful! She gets along with great all the other kids and has quite the out going personality.

Travel: Kentucky for the ISGB Gathering, 8 days in San Diego for a bead show, plus I taught and took a workshop, Mammoth Lakes for a long weekend with good friends
Roger and I finally got back into warm water, one glorious week in Cozumel was just what we needed to rejuvenate and inspire! And one of these days, I will go through all that video I shot, which will also be easier with the new mac.

The holiday season has been busy as usual. Thank you to all who thought Jujee Beads made the perfect gifts for their special ones. I appreciate your business!

Summer is here!

Sometimes I update my site starting with “wow, I can’t believe how long it’s been...”. Well, this time I am just embarrassed how looong it has been since I have updated! There has been a lot going on, as usual. I had my SCUBA show at the beginning of June which was very successful Thank you for all who stopped by to check out the new designs! I also would like to thank Mazet Studios and Rickie Voges Designs for being part of my show.

And now it’s July and just 2 weeks before my next show in Louisville, KY. at the Gathering and then a week after that, the BSSDC show in San Diego on August 6th & 7th. I am doing my best to create new goodies as well as replenish my popular beads, like my shell sets and critters.

A new item I have been on is putting sea star designs on old skeleton keys. I have also been making beads on the keys too. I will try to post more pics very soon.

It has been very warm here in So Cal so I decided it’s about time Sebastian get a little trim. This is a fun shot of his “lion cut”. He is very happy! Yes, he really is! (I like his new tail!)

I am also pleased to call my self a diver once again. It had been almost two years, but I finally got back int he water, battling the 50° water temps here in sunny So Cal! I got to see my favorite critters, the nudibranchs. And they were everywhere! I saw 7 different species! It was very exciting and yes, I was cold, but it was it was worth it. I didn’t take a camera, but my friend Jim did and got this great shot of my favorite CA nudi! More news soon....

April 29th, 2011. Endeavor Space Shuttle Mission STS-134. Launch time 3:47 EDT

This will be the very last flight for the Endeavor. And the ONLY flight for Orbits the Space Kitty! Orbits will be taking off along with 50 other bead buddies aboard the Endeavor for it’s final flight....and for Beads Of Courage! As some of you may know, “Buzz, the Space Frog” was aboard last year’s Atlantis flight STS-132, also the final flight for that space craft. This is very exciting for me! It truly is an honor to be part of the launch as well as another awareness and fund raiser for my friends at Beads of Courage! Good luck and best wishes to the entire crew of the Endeavor! We’ll see you when you return to earth!

Next up, the Long Beach SCUBA show is approaching quickly. This year the show will take place on June 4th and 5th at the Long Beach Convention Center. This is always a very busy show for me and the most work! I am very excited this year to have, once again, a selection of glass goodies from the Mazet Studios. Along with lots of new goodies from me, including a new line of bottle stoppers and jewelry! I will post a few teaser photos soon....

Spring time...

The month of April began in Las Vegas for the annual Glass Craft Expo which included a great class with Josh Mazet and always a fun weekend with my sister, Lisa and all of our show buddies. I came home to my “purrfect” kittens and found they had gone wild! As Roger says, they don’t touch the floor anymore! It’s from the chair to the couch to the table...to the shelf and so on! But honestly, they (Orbit and Isabella) are dong great and we couldn’t be happier with the new furries. Sebastian is getting along so much better than I thought , which makes us very happy.

This weekend the So Cal Flame Surfers are hosting a fund raiser for Beads of Courage (BOC) at CBS in the City of Orange. We will have torches going for 6 hours straight making beads for BOC plus Don McKinney will be demoing paper weights and other goodies in his hot shop. And speaking of Beads of Courage, I am happy to announce that I have a second bead that will be flying into space this month on the next Space Shuttle launch! “Orbits the Space Kitty” will be taking off along with 57 other bead buddies on April 29th.

I am very excited to be part of this mission and helping Beads of Courage!

My next show will be back in the the City of Orange next Saturday, April 23rd at the OC bead society Art of Adorning/Bead Bazaar. Be sure to stop by...this is a fantastic bead and jewelry show. Plus it’s outside on the grounds of the Bowers Museum and the weather is usually beautiful.

After my OC show, it is SCUBA show time again! I will be in my designer mode which is so much fun. for the past several months I have this on my mind and it will be time to start putting it all together. Stay tuned for some fun stuff, including octopus earrings and some new nudi jewelry! It’s all coming soon.....

March Happiness!

It has been a whirlwind of emotions at the Carlson house. It was tough saying goodbye to our darling girls in the past 6 months, but we are happy to report that we have welcomed in two little kitties and we couldn’t be happier! They were 5 months old when we adopted them 4 weeks ago, so they are past the teeny tiny, teething and curtain swinging days. But they are still very playful and kitten curious! They are littermate siblings, a boy and a girl. We’ve had them for 4 weeks and they still do not have official names. (I know, I know!) We try a name out for a day or so then change it. Hopefully by the next update, they will be named.
Sebastian has been SO wonderful with them! At first, he wasn’t thrilled and gave us the most disappointing glares. But he has come, knowing he is now #1 and I think is amused by the little ones running around. They are so adorable and most entertaining. Their first 5 months of life in a foster home was very good...they are happy, healthy and getting bigger everyday. We were very lucky to get this pair.

February update....

It was a very cold week in Tucson! Temps got as low as 18° during the night and managed to creep up to the 50’s during the day. Add the 25 mile an hour winds sweeping over our tent and you’ve got some pretty chilly working conditions. But the winds calmed and the sun warmed us up some by Sunday, just in time to pack up and head home.The show was still good, saw many of my Tucson regulars and met new folks from new places. Now that I am home, I have been taking photos of my beads and will be posting those very soon. So please, check back in a day or so. I promise this will happen!

On another sad kitty note...it was just 5 months ago we lost our Baby girl kitty. Her sister , Truffles hung in there for another few months, but lost her battle against time and left us just a few days before I left for Tucson. It was so hard to say goodbye, but it was all we could do to help her. We will never forget Truffles and Baby. They were the best pair of kitties we’ve ever had and we are filled with warm and fuzzy memories along with plenty of photos. Thank goodness for digital! I love you Truffles and Baby and I miss you both terribly! 1992 - 2010 & 2011

I am excited to enter my busy time once again. January marks the beginning of a very busy time for me. I have 5 big shows plus one teaching gig in the next 5 months! Plus let’s throw in taxes and home project too! So I’ll be quite the busy beader this year! I have been having fun making dicro beads on to antique skeleton keys. This aqua blue is one of my favorites, so I made a necklace. My next show coming up in 2 weeks is the

Tucson Best Bead Show. Anyone coming to Tucson for all the shows and excitement, I hope you will stop by our show and say hello! Check out all the new goodies! So much has been going on! I guess that’s the usual for this time of year, but why is it that each year gets busier! You’d think we would “have it down” by now! But it just sneaks up....faster and faster...every year!
I haven’t been on the torch much lately, trying to take a little time off for organizing, which is an ongoing project. But I’ll be back on it very soon. The Best Bead Show in Tucson is just around the corner. And just like the holidays, it will be February before we know it!

Last night Roger and I attended an elaborate Christmas party at his work, SpaceX. It was lot of fun and very exciting since the company just made history with their latest, very successful rocket launch. Roger led the recovery team who picked up the capsule after it had circled the earth and splashed down in the Pacific, right on target! It was a very good day! So the party was well deserved for everyone there.

Well, gotta go make cookie dough for my cookie and craft day with Maya tomorrow. It’s our 4th annual. She says she likes our craft & cookie day more than her own birthday! So I had to share one of my favorite pics from 2008. Maya was 6yrs old here. She finds pink is a perfectly good color for Christmas cookies. Have a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a fantastic 2011!

Bead Shows and BUZZ!

Remember a few months ago I was posting about my “Buzz, the Space Frog” bead that took a ride on the last shuttle? Well check this out, Buzz is back home and is now on tour with the rest of his space bead buddies. The beads were strung together and can be seen here being held by Astronaut Ken Ham. Along side Jamie Newton (his photo) and his daughter Sydney, who inspired the Beads in Space idea for Beads of Courage.

Would like to own a replica of “Buzz the Space Frog”? They are a limited edition bead, only 25 will be made and then they are history! Beads of Courage is selling these commemorative beads exclusively. You can purchase Buzz HERE!

The Bead Society of Los Angeles will host their annual Fall Bead Bazaar this coming Sunday, October 24th from 10 to 5pm. I am back in my usual spot, in the entrance to the auditorium....you can’t miss me! Be sure to stop by and see the new goodies I have been working on plus lots of favorites.

My next show will be BABE! on November 13th and 14th. This is a HUGE show with lots of very talented glass artists as well as most of my favorite vendors, like Via Murano, Bead Trust and Arrow Springs! hot times in the city...and the beach!

Most of us living on the So Cal coast have been complaining all summer that we never had a summer! Well....”someone” is getting us back with temps of 100° even at the beach! This week has been record breaking HOT! Not the best torching weather, but I have been doing my best to make a few pieces each day, I have a lot to catch up on.

I did take off last Sunday and went out on a friends boat in search of the magnificent blue whale. These massive creatures have been visiting our coastal waters recently due to the abundance of krill in the water. We were treated to one that actually surfaced on its side and “waved” to us with its enormous pectoral fin! (where was my camera? that’s right, in the cabin, in a bag, in its case) As we were heading back we were once again visited by another (or maybe the same one?). I managed to get this little sequence of shots. The “blow” from these animals can shoot up 30 feet!

I recently bought a big sample pack of dichro form CBS and have been experimenting. I am happy with the results so far! I am happy to introduce Aria, Alexa and Zoe!. (click on each for more info)

Our "Baby" Kitty

f you’re wondering why I have been so quiet lately, well....here it is.
On September 10th, we had to say goodbye to our beautiful kitty, Baby. We have been giving her a lot of extra care since July, but lost the battle against nature. Baby was just over 18 years old.

My friend Cindi said it best:
“Cats are sheer love wrapped in a fur coat that bring incredible richness to our lives and shred our hearts when they leave us.”
This could not be more true. I try to comfort myself knowing that we gave Baby an incredibly happy and had a fantastic life. We miss her so much and will never forget her happy spirit and head butt kisses.

I am slowly getting back on the torch. Actually, it has been a good distraction this past week. I hope to post some new beads next week. Thank you for your patience.

Hi there! I know it’s been a while since my last update, but as usual, I have been a busy beadie girl! So...what have I been doing? Well, I am making more Buzz, the Space Frog beads for Beads of Courage, who will be selling them soon as commemorative beads from the Atlantis shuttle flight. Along with that I have been working on replenishing my inventory, which (happily) dwindled away after so many shows the last couple of months.

FUN with murrinis! This little murrini fish is a design I am playing with. My next show will be at The Gathering in Rochester, NY, then the San Diego Bead Show show on August 7th & 8th. So if you're in the neighborhood, stop by a show...or feel free to drop me an email!

What else is going on? Well, I had tickets to U2 but that has been postponed (BUMMER!) for a year! So best wishes to Bono and we’ll see you in 2011! Well, technically, not to the moon, but space! I am very excited about my Buzz, the Space Frog heading up into space next friday on the very last Atlantis shuttle flight before it retires. And today, Buzz has hit the local paper, the Daily Breeze! Check out the article HERE!

Meet “Buzz, the Space Frog”! Buzz will be joining the NASA team and a few other lucky space beads on the Space Shuttle launch next month. This is a fund raiser for Beads of Courage, which is an organization that helps kids deal with cancer. Please read more HERE.

This weekend I will be at Bower’s Museum (Saturday) for the Art of Adorning the Bead show and Sunday, I will be at Los Angeles Bead Society Bead Bazaar. Be sure to drop by if you’re in the area! I have lots of nice shell sets for your summer designs, plus plenty of fun fish and frogs too! I made this new type of SCUBA frog that I am calling “SCUBA Frog meets Food Chain!” Sorry, it sold right away, but I wanted to post a photo, which was taken quickly at my last show...but you get the idea.

Next up, in just three weeks is the LONG BEACH SCUBA SHOW. My biggest and best jewelry show of the year! This year I will also be featuring glass art from the Mazet Studios and Hagstrom Art Glass, as well as my 3rd year collaborating with Rickie Voges Designs. As always, I am very much looking forward to the SCUBA show and it’s very early this year. So LOTS to do until then....and hope to see you at one of my shows!

So many shows, so many beads to make, so little time! But I am doing my best, plus I am trying to keep up with my Etsy page too! Coming up in less than two weeks, it’s the Las Vegas Glass Craft Expo, always a good time! Then I have the Orange County Bead Society show on April 24th and the Los Angeles Bead Society show on April 25th. And if that’s not enough to keep a beader busy, the SCUBA Show 2010 on May 15th & 16th. Jeez, I’m out of breathe just writing about it! Plenty of opportunity, and yes, there will be plenty of beads! For those of you unable to make these shows, I will continue to post new beads on my Etsy page.

Dublin, U2, the Emerald Isle, Guiness, Dingle Bay....ahhh the memories! Being St. Patricks Day, I reminisced my trip to Ireland a few years ago.

This is me sitting atop a beautiful, lush green hill, over looking the Blaskett Islands. Yes, that 2nd pic was my view! Ireland is breathtakingly beautiful I hope to one day go back. And the Guiness was yummy too! This is a pint from the Guiness factory, they make a shamrock on top of the creamy foam.

Well the bead biz is busy....four shows to prepare for, so the kiln has been staying hot and the torch is cookin! Here are a few goodies that say GREEN! I am loving our winter this year. We have had a lot of rain, which we needed badly. Yesterday was sunny and a little cool, then rain last night and a beautiful sunny day again today! I wish it rained in the summer here. It’s so refreshing!

Now about beads....I still have 5 weeks left before the Las Vegas Glass Craft Expo, but I not only preparing for that show. I have both the OC and the LA Bead Bazaars on the last weekend of April and THEN, it’s SCUBA show time again! The Long Beach SCUA show is early this year, May 15th & 16th. So my mind is spinning (and so are the mandrels!) with ideas!

Everyday I keep saying to myself “self, you really need to put stuff up on etsy!” But then self gets distracted with other projects, or some excuse. But I am determined with in the next week to do this. SO please check back soon for both beads and finished jewelry available. Thanks for checking in!

I am home from a wonderful week in Tucson. And what a busy week I had! First, I was there to do the Best Bead Show which was fun as always. Thursday night, went to a reception for Beads of Courage and delivered a huge box of beads and a check all from the So Cal Flame Surfers. THEN, I am proud to say that I was part the “Silica Sirens” team in the SGAA Flame Off Invitational....and we won FIRST PLACE!

Our team included JC Herrell, Kim Fields and myself. Together we created a 3 tiered totem type sculpture titled “Above and Below Tamarindo”, colors and critters inspired by Costa Rica (We have all been there once!). YOU CAN OWN THIS PIECE! Bidding will stay open until February 22nd. BID NOW! It was very exciting to place first in a competition like this among so many other very talented and creative artists. We were very happy!
What’s up next? Well, that would be the GlassCraft Expo in Las Vegas! I am looking forward to that, and even though it seems like it’s far away, April 9th - 11th, time flies....and I have lots to do to replenish my inventory and make new critters! One of the prizes I received from the flame off was variety of Bullseye glass. There are many new colors that I am going to play with....so look forward to new styles AND colors!

My very handsome kitty was extremely tolerant last Christmas as me and my favorite 7 yr. old (soon to be 8!) friend, Maya, made candy canes out of pipe cleaners. At one point Maya made a red heart and placed it on Sebastian, who was sitting patiently next to us on craft night. I am turning this into a new holiday photo for Valentine’s Day. He is my handsome Valentine kitty!

Well, well, well....it's now 2010. How did THAT happen! I never even had time to say merry Christmas! Well, it is what it is and here we are, in a new year....ready for a great year full of positive change and FUN! And speaking of FUN, I am heading off to Dallas TX this weekend to teach at the Craft Guild of Dallas for three days of fish and FUN! When I return home, I will be full time on the torch to get ready for the Tucson Best Bead Show. I also have a new tutorial out in the newest Spring issue of Bead Unique magazine. There are actually two tuts, one on how to make a lampworked sea glass toggle, and the other is a macrame necklace with sea glass shells. I will add some photos next week. In the mean time, here is a new Food Chain I made....which is also my work (different color than this one) featured in the latest issue of The Flow Woman's Issue! Wow. It's a good start to the year! I promise to update with photos and links next week!

I know you are just as busy as I am....holiday madness, at its peak! I wish I had the time to get photos up of all the goodies I have available, but it just isn't going to happen. I was in Sanibel FL over Thanksgivng with my family and had a wonderful time! Sanibel is the shell capitol of the world! We had a really good time collecting shells and just being on the beach. Beautiful place! And an amazing way to spend a Thanksgiving and time with the family!

Well, it's been a very busy month so far. And the fun just keeps on going! Last weekend I was up in Oakland at the BABE! show. Thank you to everyone who visited my booth, I had a great show!. It was good to be so busy and it was also really good to see so many of my Bay area buddies!

I am getting ready to spend my Thanksgiving time in Florida with Roger and his family. I can't wait to go shell collecting! We will be in Sanibel for a few days....shell capitol of the world! And of course, I will be stopping off at the local bead shop, Lily Rose. Then a few days up to the Cape before returning home.

My intention is to get more available jewelry up on my site and/or etsy before I go....or maybe while I am there. Although not sure about the internet there. Last weekend I was up in Chinook WA with my friends Marion Ogle and Vickie Branch of M&D Designs. This is one of my favorite places to be! And some of my favorite people to hang out with. Actually, I went there to teach my Sea of Techniques and Fishing 101 class, but I learned new things myself! Marion's husband, Pat, taught me how to BLOW seashells! Yes, I blew glass! Not my usual way of making shells, plus I was using boro. These are the two shells I made. Then Vickie taught me how to viking knit wire....so be on the lookout for jewelry using this technique pretty soon!.

My first and last day there I was treated to a tour of the WA coast, including Cape Diisappoinment (funny name, far from disappointing!), all the way up to Mt St. Helen's. Can you tell I was little cold? It was a very good weekend. I always enjoy visiting M&D Designs and hanging with the family and friends. By the way, M&D is stock full of all the 104 colors, Bullseye, boro and all the tools....just in case you want to go shopping...they ship!
Blackie, the new studio kitty was purr-fectly content to sit (sleep) in a room with 9 torches...what a happy warm place for a kitty!

It's about time! I am about ready to start a major overhaul on my website. I will add items that are actually available and remove old stuff...and there is plenty of that. Turtle time....

I was inspired to make turtles recently from some photos that Roger (my hubby) sent me from Omelek Island. Roger and his crew were busy launching a rocket (check out the SpaceX rocket launch on YouTube!) from this tiny little island in the South Pacific. But they took careful notice of the fact that turtles have nests on the island and made sure that these were not disturbed. Then, one day, they saw the little babies heading out to sea. This is a baby green turtle. And this is my new baby turtle bead....three little turtles floating on a sea of jelly fish (there favorite food!) It's a big bead, about 1 3/4" long by 1" wide (44 mm X 28 mm). Click on pic for more info.

San Diego, here we go again! It's time for one of my favorite bead shows, hosted by the Bead Society of San Diego County (BSSDC). Back from Kwajalein

I just returned from a last minute trip to Kwajalein! I know, sounds kind of crazy, but I went with Roger so I could see where he is working on launching a rocket! Pretty exciting! Kwajalein is a small island in the Marshall Islands, about 2600 miles SW of Hawaii. It is beautiful, tropical and HOT! And I mean hot in the true meaning of HOT! and very HUMID!

So aside from my bad hair week, I had a really great time there. Much more to do than one would think, wonderful people, new friends, a fun hobby shop, beaches, SCUBA, snorkeling....just to name a few things that kept me busy.

One day I spent a couple of hours picking up beach glass, another day snorkeling on Omelek, a small near by island where the rocket will launch from. We went diving one day on the most pristine reef, saw an eagle ray, a white tip shark and giant clams in the largest variety of colors I've ever seen. Another day, my new friend Melissa helped me make a ceramic bowl in the hobby shop. It really was a treat to be able to visit this island since not a lot of people can go there. It is by the US military and you have to have permission to be there, so I felt very privileged. Of course, I couldn't make beads while I was there, but I did take a project and managed to get this new, bundle of beads bracelet made. It is called the "South Pacific" bracelet. Thank you to everyone who came to see me at the Long Beach SCUBA show 2009! It was great to see my SCUBA friends, both old and new! I also want to thank my friends Margaret and Lori for helping me over the weekend, as well as my hubby Roger too. Another huge thank you to Rickie Voges who worked with me for the second year in a row, designing beautiful creations with my beads! This collaboration has proved success once again! I designed a new Garibaldi necklace this year....kind of brightened up the kelp forest necklace. I made a few for the show and they all sold. I can re-create the necklace...just send me an email! Welcome to my busiest time of the year! The Long Beach SCUBA show is coming up quick! It's early this year, May 30th & 31st so time is not on my side! I am keeping very busy making and stringing up beads. I will have my new SCUBA frogs available AND my newest creation, "Pirate Frog of the Caribbean"! This little fellow has already gone to his new home in New Orleans, but I will make at least one, maybe two more before the show. I glued a little tiny feather (from my parakeet) into his hat for the final touch.

At this time, it is going to be tough to take orders. If there is something you are interested in, please email me and we can start the process. But please understand I may not be able to fill the orders until 2nd week of June.

And speaking of June, I will be having a trunk show at the Dreamstone Bead Co. on June 27th & 28th in Rancho Cucamonga. Spring is in the air!

We have an orange tree just outside of my studio and it is filled with new blossoms. Lately, every time the breeze comes up, the scent of orange blossoms fills my studio!. It smells so sweet and it reminds me what time of year it is. Unlike others that have begun tending to their gardens...I have entered my busy season with lots of shows. The Las Vegas Glass Expo was wonderful! Both old and new faces visited through out the weekend which kept me very busy! Thank you to all of my customers! I entered a new project of mine called POPPY REEF into the "Gallery of Excellence" and was awarded with the "People's Choice" award in that category! What a thrill! (click on the pic for more info and photos) The first annual hot glass flame off took place which was amazing to watch. I also had family visiting from MD, AZ and Ca, so it was great reunion weekend as well.

Earth Day is officially on April 22nd, but many are organizing events this Saturday, April 18th. I will be volunteering at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and helping with their beach clean-up. Be sure to check your local papers for how you can help in your community and learn to be environmentally conscious and GREEN!

I will be at the Orange County Bead Society's annual Art of Adorning Bead Bazaar held at the Bowers Museum on April 25th. Click HERE for address and directions. The show begins at 10 am and ends at 4 pm, which is an hour early, so make your plans to get there early. You don't want to miss that very special bead!

And coming up on May 30th & 31st is the LONG BEACH SCUBA SHOW. My biggest and best show of the year. This is when all the jewelry happens! Well it's no joke that it is April 1st and a big happy birthday to BOB! I have been a very busy beader getting ready for the Las Vegas Glass Craft Expo which runs through this weekend. Not only is the show going to be fun, I'll be spending some time with family as well, so I am looking forward to it! This is one of my latest little "springtime" frogs that will be appearing this weekend. And yes, I know that lady bugs have black spots and not white, but it's all about artists interpretation, right? Life is good...

Ya know sometimes it's not all about the beads! Glass makes me happy! My life is consumed with glass, making beads, doing the shows, filling orders, making jewelry....but once in a while I like to stop and "smell the roses". Recently I have reconnected with some old friends (okay, not OLD, but from my past) which has brought back fond memories and smiles. Isn't the internet great! And this photo of one of my best friend' s daughter, Stella with her kitty and new puppy, who seem to be getting along nicely. This photo makes me happy...and smile too. Stella is recouping from a broken wrist, but she doesn't let that stop her from having fun! Kids are amazing! I'm going to remember that next time my knee hurts.

Recently I have been making some shell sets with white and clear glass that I think would be perfect for a Beach style wedding! Of course, that's my opinion (and my taste in weddings!), but you can check out my latest "Beach Wedding" set now on Etsy. I don't normally etch opaque beads, but I did etch a set of these and they look just like porcelain! These beads go beautifully with pearls and crystals, whether etched or not! I will have more on Etsy later this week, including this Beachy Bright set too!

I am now in Tucson getting ready for the BEST BEAD SHOW at the Kino Center. The weather is beautiful, high 70's and breezy, perfect for a bead show! The show runs from Wednesday, Feb. 4th thru Sunday, Feb. 8th. I am out in Tent A, first booth as you enter form the parking lot. There is a reason this is called the BEST bead show! There are over 100 lampwork artists, plus tons of glass & tool vendors, beads of all shapes, colors, sizes and materials! If you are in town, or near by, be sure to stop by. Free entry and parking. About time I chimed in and said that! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! I am excited about the new year...so much going on. And I know some if it is not so great, I am starting my year with a positive outlook on the future. I spent my Christmas in Cape Canaveral, FL along with my husband, Roger, who has been working there for a month now. Meanwhile, back in the studio, I have been making beads for the Best Bead Show in Tucson next month. I "debuted" my SCUBA frog at the Gathering last year, but have never shown a photo...so here it is, three views. I will have several of these beads available by February.

SCUBA frog is complete with a mask, tank, regulator and a tiny little weight belt. He has just come across a friendly little fish and is swimming among a sea of dicroic and jelly fish in the background. Of course he looked up to "pose" for the picture!

For the next couple of days (jan 8th to 12th), I am teaching at the Craft Guild of Dallas, so that will keep me busy over the weekend. I love teaching here...it's a beautiful facility and the Texas hospitality is warm and friendly! But I am looking forward to getting home...Roger will finally be home, after a month of being away!

Thank you to everyone who included Jujee Beads in there Christmas shopping! You kept me very busy and I enjoyed every minute of it. Now its time to take a little break. I will be spending my Christmas in Florida...Cape Canaveral to be exact. Roger is working there through the holiday putting a rocket together for his new job. I know that a white Christmas is very festive, but the weather in CC has been sunny and 80°...that's my kind of Christmas!

Last Saturday I got to spend an afternoon with my friend Maya baking cookies and doing crafts. Maya has gotten much better in her decorating skills since last year. Not only did she decorate sugar cookies, she decorated my kitty! Truffles was amazingly tolerant of Maya's decoration

Have a wonderful holiday. I will pop in again next week when I return.

Today I decided, instead of going to the gym, I would take a long walk on the beach (oh bummer!) and maybe pick up some driftwood for a project. The sun was shining through a hazy sky. Probably some residual smoke in the air from all the fires last week. The ocean was calm and I figured it was a good dolphin sighting day. I walked about a mile and a half, mainly with my eyes on the sand, picking up a few sea treasures including a few pieces of sea glass along with the driftwood I was searching for. I sat down on the warm sand for a few minutes, soaking in the sun and sea air, before heading back. I looked up and down the surf zone, but no dolphins. Oh well....I stood up, stretched a bit and when I looked up... there they were, 3 big pacific dolphins right in front of me (where did they come from?) slowly cruising the same direction I was about to walk. So I walked "with them" for several blocks. Then they all stopped and kind of floated around this one area. At first I thought they were going to feed. The sea birds began circling above them, but the dolphins were acting very calm and gently breaking the surface in both directions.

I sat back down and watched for maybe 10 minutes, then they were on their way again...still slow. They were obviously not feeding. Then I thought...maybe one of them just gave birth! Wouldn't that have been SO cool? I watched carefully to see if I could now see 4 fins break the surface, but it was hard to tell since they don't all come up at once. They stopped again and frolicked a little. At that point, I could swear I saw a little dorsal fin. Maybe it was wishful thinking....but I like the story and think I will just believe that is what I saw : ) I wish I had had a camera, or binoculars. Oh well...I did happen to have a camera one lucky day in Cozumel, which is where I captured the moment in the picture above. Click on the dolphin photo for more pics from that day. I couldn't help myself...I had to post this photo of the "frog-kitty"! My sister, Lisa, sent this to Sebastian (my boy kitty who looks just like the kitty under the frog!) and "family" for Halloween. Really doesn't get better than that! I think the little frog hat, which would be purr-fect for the boy, would last a total of 17 seconds. But it would be worth it! Thanks Lees!

It's true...after two months I am finally updating my website! And not just the front page, but the Gallery too.
I had a very busy summer and I am extremely grateful for that. Thank you to all of my customers from my show regulars to my internet friends, your business is much appreciated. And I want to make it easier for you to see and purchase my beads. I am hoping to have an Etsy store up and running within the next week or so. This is my goal. I am saying it now so I have to follow through!

I haven't been on the torch a lot since I am devoting my time to photographing my inventory, writing descriptions and also catching up with life! But I did have time to make a few new frogs, like Krypto (see above) and Halloween Beads, like my new Wizard Kitty! Well...as usual, lots has happened since my last post. And this post is way over due! The San Diego Bead Society show was GREAT as always! It's probably a little late for thank yous, but thanks to everyone who stopped by and also to Donna and the BSSDC for putting on that show!

Next was The Gathering which I could on about forever, but I'd run off the page! This is a once a year glass conference, put on by the ISGB and it was AWESOME!!! Glass overload! Plus I had the opportunity to take a class from the famous Master Glass Artist, Vittorio Constantini. This class was very challenging, it was beyond bead and all sculptural.

With three shows coming up practically back to back....I have been keeping myself pretty dang busy! I apologize to those I have had to delay orders until September, but I can only make so many beads! As some of you know, I did sneak out of town for a few days...headed up to Seattle with Roger so he could go fishing with his buddy, Brian. While they were floating around the sound, I got to explore the many glass options in the area, which included the Tacoma Museum of Art for Chihuly, Olympic Color Rods and the highlight, the Seattle Glassblowing Studios.

I was lucky enough to catch their artists making a big clown fish sculpture! It was so cool to watch them make a critter I make, only 100 times bigger! The gallery at the studio was bursting with color!

Back to the bead making, I have been busy making all the usual critters, along with a few new surprises...Stay tuned, soon to be revealed!

New frogs are always being made, including the two here, Amber (above) and Gertrude, who I especially like with the ochre colors glass. Click on either photo for more info on each bead.

BTW, Roger and Brian got a total of 5 silver salmon and over a dozen yummy Dungeness crabs. We ate VERY well while in Seattle and thanks again to Brian and his wonderful family for putting us up for a few days. We very well may see you again, same time next year?

I want to thank everyone who visited my booth at the 2008 Long Beach SCUBA Show! Another record attendance, over 11,000 people! It was unusually hot, so being inside an air conditioned convention hall was the place to be! I also want to thank my husband, Roger, who helps me at this show (it's the only one he'll do!) and my good friends, Margaret and Kathi, who helped me take care of the booth. I really could not do this show alone, so I greatly appreciate their help! Also, Rickie Voges of Rickie Voges Designs. for creating some absolutely gorgeous jewelry using my beads, as well as some other talented glass artists. I thought that was a nice fresh touch to the collection this year.

Ever wonder where the name "Jujee" came from? The secret is revealed...Click on my photo above to see my interview for Dive Matrix! My buddy Ken Kopp from Dive Matrix did a nice job interviewing several vendors...check them all out HERE!

So, moving on to the next show...the San Diego Bead Bazaar put on by the BSSDC, August 2nd & 3rd. This is one of my (many) favorite shows to do. It's a big show, with lots of great vendors, plus I get to spend the weekend with my sister, Lisa, who also helps me out at the show. And right after that, I am going to The Gathering which is a HUGE glass beadmaker conference. This year it will be held in Oakland CA, so I am finally able to attend! On Saturday, August 9th, I will have a table at the one day bead bazaar at the Oakland Marriott Convention Center. This is the MOST amazing gathering of glass artists from all over the world! So if you are into glass beads, better make your plans now!

Well, I have lots to get made. BUT, sometime with in the next couple of months I PROMISE to update my web gallery. I know I have said this many times, but it is just been too neglected, and I will make the time to put up new pics....even beads that are available! It's SCUBA SHOW time!

I can't believe that is has been a month since I last posted! Jeez!! But I can tell you that I have been a busy beader....and all is done and at the show! A quick preview...I am quite proud of my "Hypseledoris bullocki laying eggs" neckalce. This is a one of a kind piece. I was making nudibranch pendants and this one was slightly off center, so I thought it would look better strung sideways....then the imagination took over.

I have also been experimenting with silver chain, which I think looks particularly good with this fish, encased with teal glass and silvered ivory shards, with fine silver accents. And of course, lots of big Swarovski crystals for sparkle. I have a few of these in different colors. (silver chains and designs vary slightly)

And last but not least....and one of my most proud accomplishments, was making clown trigger fish beads small enough to use for earrings! Now...these were not easy, and I only got 3 pairs made. But I will be taking orders for these at the show, or you can email me and I will tell you more details.

And yet more exciting news, I will be showing a collection of (and selling!) amazingly beautiful jewelry from one of my favorite designers, Rickie Voges of Rickie Voges Designs. She makes bracelets and necklaces that always include lampwork beads and quite often have an ocean theme. Each piece is very unique. Check out her work here.

Once again, Indonesia is the most AWESOME DIVING IN THE WORLD! I mean, can it get better? I am willing to go in search of a better a place, but I have a feeling, I will anxiously return to N. Sulawesi to be with the crazy critters that reside there! Now that I am back to reality, I will be spending the next 5 weeks preparing for my biggest jewelry show of the year, the Long Beach SCUBA Show. I will be very busy so I will not be able to take on custom orders until after the show (end of June), however, if there is something you are interested in, please don't hesitate to email me and will add you to my order list. Keep checking in as I will post photos of some new jewelry designs for the show!

With fresh inspiration, I plan on having lots of nudibranch pendants for the show, like these little Risbecia tryoni beads! These nudibranchs are often seen in pairs, trailing each other, following the others "scent". My Risbecia beads will be sold separately, but I'm sure they will be happy that way! Spring is here in So Cal, the flowers are blooming, the sun has been shining and the beads shows are abundant! I was in Las Vegas at the beginning of the month...always a fun show and weekend there. And even though "lady luck" decided not to join us, Lisa and I managed to eat, drink and be merry!

So moving on this month, on April 26th, I will be at the Bowers Museum for the BSOC Art of the Adorning Bead Bazaar. This is a biggie! It's a wonderful outdoor show with lots of vendors, plus you can visit the museum while you're there. (if you can pull yourself away from the beads!) I don't have an exact booth number, but we are right along the sidewalk on 20th Street. I'll be sharing the booth with Charlie Warner of Charlie's Creations. And if you can't make that show (or need more!), April 27th, I will be showing at the L. A. Bead Society Bead Bazaar in Culver City. I'll be in my usual spot...first booth the entrance into the the main room. I am working on my inventory every day, so I'll have lots of goodies all weekend long. The Las Vegas Glass Craft & Bead Expo is taking place this weekend, April 4th through the 6th at the SouthPoint Casino and Hotel and we are THERE! This is a huge show and a really fun weekend in Vegas. My sister, Lisa, who you show regulars are getting to know, is joining me as usual. We are looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and meeting new glass bead fans too. Greetings everyone....and happy Springtime! I hope the new season is starting to bring in warmer temps and sunshine. It's been a busy few weeks for me. Since Tucson and besides being sick for 2 weeks, I taught a class in WA at M&D Designs (good fun there!) been back to Connecticut to visit family and just returned from San Diego where I gave a presentation to the Bead Society of San Diego. I premiered my latest project, an "inspirational" video using my underwater footage from Indonesia and also the making of a few fish beads. I was pleased with the way it turned out....but it still needs a few tweaks. I plan on showing this at my shows. By the way, editing takes way too much time!!!

And speaking of shows, I have a LOT going on in April. First it will be the Las Vegas Glass Expo, April 4th through the 6th, then I will be teaching at the Mandrel on April 12th & 13th (last class of the year and a really good deal!) April 26th I'll be at the Orange County Bead Society bead bazaar at Bowers Museum and April 27th, the L.A. Bead Society show in Culver City. Did you get all that? And then there's the SCUBA Show in June! All that info is also on my schedule page.

So with all that said...I better get back to the torch. There are a lot of beads to get made. Hope to see you at one of the shows soon!

Tucson was great! Thank you to everyone who bought beads from me and all who stopped by. It was fun seeing my old friends and also meeting lots of new folks. I know I always say that, but I really do mean it. I love doing the shows! Unfortunately, the "bug" got me...and apparently quite a few others too. It's been over a week and I am still not back on the torch, although I hope to be tomorrow.

Have you ever seen the website "Stuff on my Cat" well you should be checking it out everyday! I guarantee it will make you smile. Well today, I "posed" Sebastian for his shot at fame (no fortune)! So check it out and keep an eye out for the boy! Sebastian has been a very good companion, keeping me warm and snuggled while I wait this bug out. I also want to thank my darling husband, Roger. His birthday was February 14th and he spent it taking care of me! I love you honey! and thank you for the roses too.

Twas the night before January 1st, and all through the house, all the left overs are gone, not a crumb for a mouse. The stockings still hang by the chimney, but why? Because some of us are too darn lazy to put all this stuff back into boxes and into the attic!! Yes, the Christmas tree still stands all a glow, while Sebastian drinks down the tree water, too low .

Okay, that's enough of that. We had a great holiday and I hope you did too. My dad turned 75 on the 22nd and we had a party for him at our house. We had a full house of visitors for 8 days, which was actually very nice.

I love my family very much and it's not often we all get to spend that much time together....I am thankful for that time. My sister Lisa, who some of you know from my shows, was here as well. We had fun hanging out and even got in a little torch and bead time. I taught her how to make glass beads and the next day she was already asking about the cost of setting up at home! I tell ya, it's addicting!

January 5th & 6th, I will be teaching at the Craft Guild of Dallas. When I return it will be all about TUCSON! I was playing with photos today for an ad I am placing in the Best Bead Show flyer and I liked the look on these fish faces. I told Roger, if this was us, I would be the clown fish! She is looking at the trigger so adoringly! I found that pretty cute.

I hope to see you at one of my shows this year. My show schedule is up to date. And my goal fopr 2008 is to update the photos in my bead gallery!!

Another holiday season has fallen upon us...amazing. This year is especially strange feeling since we recently were in the tropics. It feels like summer just ended last week! Then again, it's not like we have a big seasonal change in Southern CA, but it felt weird putting Christmas lights up yesterday. I had to put on Christmas music to "set the mood"....which seemed to work well. Roger and I had a nice Thanksgiving with his mom and niece from Connecticut. Now I am trying to catch up with business before diving into the full on holiday thing!

Welcome to November! The official start to the busiest time of the year. Well, for me, it feels like this whole year has been crazy busy, and it doesn't look any different for next year! (which is a good thing!) It is a great feeling to know that so many people enjoy my glass art and that I am able to continue with my craft. I LOVE making beads! But the paper work and business stuff...It's tough working at home....I am not the most organized person. I wish I could be...it's a fantasy. Enough of my whining, I am extremely happy to be part of the BABE! show this weekend in Oakland. I have been glued to the torch getting lots of goodies made for my new friends in the bay area. Back from Indonesia!

Indonesia...what an AMAZING and BEAUTIFul part of the world! And we are so lucky to have spent our last holiday in this country. The diving was phenomenal, the people are wonderful and the scenery....think tropical south Pacific...with all the details! I have brought back so much inspiration...along with the worst jet lag I've ever experienced. Sunday, October 28th, I will have my usual spot at the L.A. Bead Society Bazaar. There is a small admission fee, but lots of free parking, so stop by and say hello!

We saw the craziest creatures diving in Lembeh Straights, including hairy frogfish, a countless amount of nudibranchs and little, tiny pygmy seahorses. It was wild! When you think of October, most would conjure up thoughts of summer turning to fall, pumpkins and pulling sweaters out of the closet. That is my usual October, however this year is quite different for me. I will be spending the next few weeks in the warm tropics, enjoying ocean breezes and swaying palm trees. And WARM water diving! Lots of it! I am off to renew my inspiration, take a break and refresh! No TV, no phones and no EMAIL!

It's been a very busy year, and it will be back to the torch the minute I return. I will have my usual booth at the L.A. Bead Bazaar on Sunday, the 18th. I hope to see you there. Until then, warmest wishes!

Wow. So much going on, so little time to write! The Bead Society of San Diego once again, hosted a great show the first weekend of August. Thanks again to all the folks who stopped by and Donna Palmer for organizing the event. A HUGE thank you to my sister, Lisa, with whom I could not do these shows with out her! I am so excited that Lisa will be joining me in Tucson next month for the Best Bead Show, September 7, 8 and 9th. This is the 2nd annual and I am looking forward to seeing my Tucson buddies! I will update with more detail very soon. And add more pics. This is a new frog, her name is Jessica. She sits atop a gorgeous garden of lavender and teal flowers. She is very beautiful! I know it's been a REALLY long time since my last update, in fact it's been a month! But sometimes things happen and time passes quickly and priorities take over. I lost my Grandmom a few weeks ago...she would have been 98 in September. She wasn't sick, it was just her time to go and it was peaceful. I am thankful I had the opportunity to visit her in June, when she was still with us. My Grandmother loved flowers and gardens. I placed this photo here in her memory. A butterfly on an echinichea flower in my Mother in laws garden, where we recently spent a lovely weekend.

My next show will be the Bead Society of San Diego's 7th annual Bead Bazaar in San Diego on August 4th & 5th. I will be very busy in the month of July restocking my bead inventory! I will have lots of the usual, like my fish and shell beads...along with a few new fun bead designs. Make your plans to stop by, it's a great bead show!

The second weekend of August I will be in Sonoma teaching. I have two classes, the first day I teach shells, turtles and dolphins and the second day is all about fish! Check out the Bead Unique "U" for more info. I will not have a booth at the bead show due to timing with the San Diego show...but I will definitely have beads with me!

I know it's been a while....it's been a different couple of weeks filled with both fun and sadness. Once again, thanks to everyone who visited the Long Beach SCUBA show! It really was a great show. Just after that crazy weekend, Roger and I took off for Ireland. He had to work a few days in Dublin, but we we went early and drove to the west coast of the country...and what a GORGEOUS country it is! We went diving one day in Dingle and also got to see Fungi the dolphin, who lives in Dingle Bay and greets every single boat going in and out of the harbor. The food was very good and the Guinness is wonderful...unlike any beer I've ever had. One day in Dublin, my friend Leslie and I ventured out in the rental car (while the boys were working) to a Dublin coastal town called Dun Laoghaire. We had a nice lunch (including a glass of Guinness) then checked out the houses along the coast...stumbling upon this beautiful gate that is the entrance to Bono's home. (coincidence?? hmmm)

It was quite the experience driving in Dublin, but we made it down to the coast and back in one piece. That night we had a tour of the Guinness factory followed by dinner. Before heading home, Roger and I went back to the west coast and visited the Cliffs of Moher which was truly the most spectacular coast line I have ever seen. I love tropical...but I really did leave a little piece of my heart in Ireland....and one day, I'll go back again!

The sadness is about my Grandmom. She is the last existing grandparent I have left...and not for long. She is 97 and the strongest woman I have ever known. My sister, Lisa and I flew to Maryland to be with her. I have such fond memories of visiting her when I was small. I used to love that she put Velveta cheese in mac & cheese. And she has always made the best lemon bars ever! I have her recipe...but it's just not the same when I make them. Lisa and I always looked forward to going to Grandmom's house for visits....she will be greatly missed.

SCUBA Show 2007!

By far, this was the busiest show I have ever had! And I wasn't the only one...the vendor "buzz" going around was the same...this had to be a record attendance. Thank you to everyone that came by to see me, both new and return Jujee Bead fans. I had a wonderful time talking with everyone and I appreciate your business! Roger managed to grab this shot of Kathi and me on Saturday during a rare moment when there wasn't a crowd around the table...and I was so busy, I forgot to have more pics taken. Oh well...there is always next year...and I will definitely be back for SCUBA 2008!

One of my goals for this show was to gather email addresses for those who would want to receive occasional Jujee Beads news. Well, I think we got the first three customers to sign the list and then it was just too busy. If you are interested in joining my email list, send me an email and just say "put me on the list!". I promise not to bombard you with emails, just an occasional "what's new" type of thing.

Roger and I will taking some quiet time for the next week or so....I don't know how often I will be checking email while we are gone, so please be patient for my response. I look forward to getting back in the swing when I return, with an entirely fresh inspiration....and will tell you all about our travels at that time! :)

LONG BEACH SCUBA SHOW!

Yes, it's time again for the Long Beach SCUBA Show on June 2nd and 3rd. I hope all my diver friends plan on attending the show. I always have a great time at this show. For one reason, it's the only show that my husband will do with me! There is plenty of other things to keep him busy than looking at other beads. Plus we see a lot of friends and get to enjoy the show. This is my biggest and best jewelry show of the year. This is when I sit with my friend Margaret and string up every bead I can possibly think of doing something with! If you want a coupon good for a $1 off the admission, shoot me an email.

This year, my focus is on earrings. I will have plenty of beautiful necklaces and bracelets, both casual and fancy, but I am working hard on making a lot of earrings. I think earrings are easier to wear more often and are great conversation pieces. I mean how many people do you know with a pair of bat ray earrings!

Aside from making beads and jewelry, this past week has been crazy...or is it me that was crazy when I volunteered to babysit my friend's kitten for 10 days! Actually, it has been a lot of fun, Chico is the cutest, most lovable kitten I have ever met! And our cats are kind of getting used to him....in addition to the kitten, we also acquired a baby parakeet! We rescued the little girl from the crows, put up "found bird" signs but did not have any luck finding it's owner. Well, she is so cute and so sweet, we are thinking of keeping her! So a few changes at the Carlson house, but all is good!

Whew! Now THAT was a busy weekend! I did two shows, Saturday, the Bead Society of OC at the Bower's Museum and Sunday, the LA Bead Society Spring Fair in Culver City. I am a bit tired today, but gotta keep the steam! Now it's time to make jewelry, lots and lots of jewelry! It's SCUBA show time again! I will still be on the torch and taking orders...but please be patient with me through emails...I may be a little slow returning them.

The Bead Society of L.A. is hosting their semi-annual Spring Bead Bazaar Sunday, April 29th at the Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Culver City. The bazaar is open from 10 to 5pm. Turtles!

Roger is always finding cool websites, and this one is no exception! The Great Turtle Race is a REAL race with REAL turtles! The leatherback turtles have used the beaches of Costa Rica to lay their eggs for years. Unfortunately, the leatherbacks are near extinction from people stealing the eggs from the nests. (more info here) With the support from several large company sponsors, the turtles have been tagged and their journey to the Galapogos Islands is being tracked. It's a lot of fun to check out the progress of each turtle. I have chosen Purple Lightening just because, well, I like purple! But I truly support ALL the turtles. Check out race!

The Las Vegas Glass Craft & Bead Expo was a BLAST! My sister Lisa, pictured here with me, came out to help me with my booth AND my gambling luck! She brings "Pony" (her "stuffed" one) for luck and it seems to work for her. It always amazes me that she wins on slot machines, so this year, I tired my luck and it worked for me too! YAY! But enough about that...let's talk GLASS!

There were several amazing artists like my friend Beau Tsai (I wish he had a website!) who makes incredible glass animal sculptures, Deb Crowley of big, beautiful fish fame, Leah Faribanks with her gorgeous floral and jeweled beads and then I got to meet the Mazet boys! Josh and Ely Mazet of Mazet Studios, create amazing boro critters and marbles. I was lucky enough to bring home this gorgeous sea slug made by Josh.

When I returned home, I had to get ready for a small craft fair, which meant stringing up beads. I was actually glad I had not sold this extra large scallop shell since I had this idea for a necklace. It turned out pretty nice, in fact I didn't display it at the show because I like ot too much. I made another yesterday in a soft, aqua color, put it out today and sold it! I didn't even get a photo!

While making jewelry, Sebastian once again tried to help. Look at him! All he's thinking about is how much closer he can get to my bead board and what can he "help" with. I also put together several new pairs of my little fishie earrings.

I promise to get photos up with in the next week. Okay, I hope this has brought you up to date...now I gotta go do my taxes...and make more beads!

...hopefully will be a great Glass Expo in Vegas! Yes, it's that time a year again to pack up my goodies and head to the big city in the desert! The Glass Craft & Bead Expo starts this Friday, March 30th and runs through Sunday, April 1st (closes 3 pm on Sunday!). This is my second year having a booth, third year attending the expo and what a good time it is! I mean hey, it's VEGAS!

Fun and COLOR with Heather Trimlett!

This past weekend I took a two day button class with Heather Trimlett at the Mandrel. Heather is kown for her bright, vivid colored beads as well as her buttons, disc beads and hollows. She was great! An infinite source of glass bead knowledge and quite entertaining as well. We had a wonderful group of lampworkers and I know they all had a great time too!

I had planned on being on the torch all day today with so many bright colors and twistie combos just spinning in my head! But...it was one of those catch up days that became the priority...maybe tomorrow! If you have a chance to take a class with Heather, even if you are not planning to make a lot of buttons (ya neva know!), you can get a lot out of her class! I made a few sets of these new critters which I am in the process of naming. I was inspired by a really cute birthday card Roger received from our friends, the Holzer's. It was one of those new crazy cards that fold together and have things swinging and so forth...this one has a swinging goldfish with lots of friendly little critters all around him. I have been making shells for several years now and thought I would "whimsy" them up a bit. I think they're a pretty friendly bunch. What do you think? I will be "debuting" these babies at my next show, the Glass Craft Expo in Las Vegas!

Five days of beads, beads and more BEADS! Amazing artists and glass every where! Wow, it was a really good 5 days. And to extend that even more, on the sixth day (my day off), I stumbled upon the Whole Bead show and met Andrea Guarino-Slemmons and I couldn't pass up her gorgeous heart pendant! I am taking Andrea's class next month at The Mandrel and I can't wait! Aside from the cool techniques she is teaching, she is a really nice person and I know the class is going to amazing!

Tucson was great! And thanks to everyone that came by my booth. I met a ton of new people during this show and as always, had a great time talking with all of you! I had a wonderful time getting to know Gail Joseph from GG Glass and bought lots of her new "Duos" cane....can't wait to make fish from this! I will post progress soon!

My plan for the next couple of weeks is to (make beads!) update my website and add LOTS of new glass goodies that will be available. Please keep checking back. And always, feel free to send me an email with any questions.

The Tucson Best Bead Show....

I can't help it! Look at how handsome he is!! Sebastian is sitting here right now, happy because he just had his greenies and now he's ready for bed! So am I for that matter....but before I retreat to dreamland, just a quick update on the bead front...that IS what this site is supposed to be about BEADS, not CATS!

Last week, Roger and I drove up the coast to see the elephant seals on the beach just north of Cambria, then we went to he Monterey Bay Aquarium to see the great white shark which was very cool! We were very lucky to see it since they released the shark back to ocean yesterday. We had a great time...it is a wonderful aquarium and the location is gorgeous! And I highly recommend Fish Hopper (1/2 block away from MBA) for lunch AND dinner! Anyhoo, I was shark inspired when I came home...so here are the results. (can you ID all three sharks?) They will be taking the trip to Tucson next week. On that note, better go get some sleep, gotta torch all day long!!

Happy new year to all! It's the start of another new year...we've made our resolutions, we've eaten our last cookie and drank the last of the champagne for a while...now what? Well I can tell you that making beads is top on my list! Next stop, TUCSON for the Best Bead Show! I am so excited about this show. It is 5 days long and I can't wait to see a bunch of friends as well as making new ones. I am also excited that the "To Bead True Blue" show is starting on Tuesday, the 30th, giving me an afternoon of visiting folks I didn't think I'd have a chance to see, like Kate Fowle Melaney and Carla Beyerlein of Hearts of Glass.

The beginning of the year also makes me think about getting my books and taxes together, although I always seem to be doing this around the 14th of April...but not this year, I have help!

I wish I could control how many photos I post of Sebastian, but I can't help it! He's so handsome and I just love him to pieces. Hopefully soon I will post pics of beads! Better go get on the torch!

I would like to thank everyone who thought Jujee Beads would be the perfect gift for that special person in their life. It's been a busy week but things are now calmed down. I like the way Christmas is on a Monday this year...it makes it feel more relaxed for some reason. I have finished making and packing and sending and shopping...all I have left is a little wrapping and relaxing! Okay, maybe a bit more baking too. Roger and I are having a quiet Christmas at home since the families are all spread out this year. Roger has been home for the last couple of days which makes the holiday feel like it started .

Talk about a chock full of information...Kate knows it all! We played with electro-forming, glass painting, enamels, metal foils and fuming, making new glass colors...you name, she knows it and she taught it! I made LOTS of beads in this class, and bigger than my usual too. That is one of the many reasons I love taking classes, it really challenges you to try new things and hopefully, be pleased with the results!

Kate has been teaching for over 15 years and making beads for longer. She is a wonderful instructor with a beautiful energy. If you get the opportunity to take a class with her, DO IT!

My goodness, another year has flown by and here we are at the start of that crazy holiday season. Here in So. CA, we are still wearing shorts and t-shirts during the day! It never feels right...but I do have to say, it's nice to have a sunny walk on the beach Thanksgiving morning! (and a BIG apple pie for dessert!)

As usual, I have been very busy lately, trying to make beads when I can but other projects have consumed my time. We replaced the windows in our house and I had to paint all of the interior trim. (I still have more to go!) But I did get the downstairs done and it looks great. My mother-in-law, Pauline, is here from CT (which is a good thing, and yes, I get along with her very well!) for Thanksgiving, which is the first time she's here for the holiday. We have plenty of fun things to do the next few days, like go to the Getty Museum, maybe a little shopping, walk on the beach and make an apple pie, as well as the entire turkey dinner!

But let's talk about classes... Sharon Peters (pictured here showing us her own technique of roasting a marshmallow on the torch for our afternoon Smore snack!) is now my FAVORITE instructor EVER! This was the most fun two days of torching and I think everyone there would agree. Sharon shares so much technique, humor, inspiration and even cooking tips in her class. She really knows how to dig into the depths of your imagination and pushes you (in a charming way) to make things you never, ever thought about making before. I LOVE Autumn! Except for the adjustment for the earlier days. But other than that, it's always been a great time of year. Maybe because it's my birthday month or the beautiful fall colors (not that we see that much of that in So. Cal.) or the fun of Halloween. (in my top three fav holidays!) Or maybe since it is the beginning of a hectic season, it's like getting ready for a really busy day! What ever the reason, I do like it and I also really like make Halloween beads! It is the only holiday I enjoy making lots of beads for. In fact I have a large Halloween necklace that is made up from my beads as well as a friend and fellow SCFS buddy, Julie Carlton's beads, that I have now dubbed as my official Halloween costume! It's much easier to put on a black turtle neck with a fancy beaded necklace than put all that goopy make up on...right?? Well here are a few Halloween beadies I still have available. Today was the last day on the torch for a while. I have to string, price and pack tomorrow and then it is on my way to the desert! I haven't been to Tucson for a while and I am really looking forward to it for a couple of reasons. I am very excited to be a part of the Fall Tucson Best Bead show. I will be in booth # 73, if that helps, look for the fish balloons! What's fun for me is my Mom lives in Tucson, so I get to spend the weekend with her along with my sister, Lisa, who will be flying in to visit and help me. Hope your Labor Day weekend was full of fun and sun and good food! Last week, Roger went fishing with his buddy, Bob, and caught this beauty! It was his first Dorado and he was thrilled! He also brought in a yellowtail and Bob got a couple too! I was very happy for him. We enjoyed Bob's fish tacos friday night and mahi mahi with a honey wasabi sauce on saturday. Sunday we feasted on lobster and tri tip at another friends house...not a bad weekend menu! Although I was back at the gym first thing this morning!

We had a fun time up in Sonoma this past weekend. Mad Beader, Bindy Lambell and I certainly made the most of our free time while up in the wine country! We managed to visit three vineyards, eat better than we should have, had lots of laughs and both had a good show at the Soft Flex Glass Art & Bead show. We enjoyed meeting lots of new folks as well as seeing many familiar faces too!

On a sad note, I do have to vent my upsetting experience of having THREE frog beads stolen from me at the show. It happened over the course of both days and I assume it was just one person...because I would hate to think there is more than one of this kind running around bead shows! This person(s) has no idea how hurtful this is, to steal something that was hand made with love and passion for the art. It truly saddens me that this person(s) is that tortured and has such a sad life that they would steal from me...and I'm sure many others. What really upsets me is that my little babies (the beads, of course) have to live with this thief. They deserve a better life! So I hope this miserable human does sell them, at least the person who buys them would appreciate the beads. The little frog shown here with a tiny spider is one of the missing. karma, karma, karma....that's all I have to say for now.

I have many good excuses for not updating my website for one month, but mainly...I HAVE BEEN SO FRIGGIN BUSY!!!! After the SCUBA show, I began preparing for my upcoming Sonoma Glass Art & Bead Festival which is this weekend, August 12th and 13th. During the last month, besides making beads in record HOT temperatures, I had a wonderful 3-day class with Pati Walton and learned how to make murrinis, filled several frog necklace orders (thanks everyone!), I took a weekend off to go diving, wrote an article and tutorial for a glass magazine (more details later) AND on August 5th, Roger and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary! Whew! My friend, Bindy Lambell, the "Mad Beader", and I are heading to Sonoma a day early so we can take a breath before the show...and maybe enjoy a taste of wine while we're in wine country!

Back to BEADS! So here's the deal...I have been getting ready for the Sonoma show, but just three short weeks after that, I will be going to Tucson for the Tucson Fall Best Bead show. I know the time will fly by so I have been "extra" busy with that in mind.

One of the fun things I have made for Sonoma are my "Sonoma Bead Series" (formerly known as the "Napa" series :) I wish I had more, but they are a bit time consuming. I really like the wine toppers too!

My jellyfish earrings "debuted" at the SCUBA show 2006 went over very well! I only had four pairs and they sold out quickly. I have recently made more jelly beads, I just need to put them together. I tried to color that title in red, white and blue, but I haven't quite figured out those things in this new format I am using. Oh well, the thought was there. I hope everyone is enjoying a little R&R time during this holiday. Despite the heat, I have still been out on the torch most of the weekend. I had a lot of folks asking about frogs at my recent show, so I have made a few lately. The one with the black frog peaking over is made with Kronos glass, which are the little blue dots in the bead. The frog also has little blue dots on its back which look iridescent. It's very cute! And I love how the little green guy is smiling! Click on each frog to learn its name and details about the bead!

Well, hello there! I can finally come up for a breath of air! The SCUBA show was GREAT! Many thanks to all of my new and old (meaning nothing about age, of course!) friends! If you were there and stopped by, a HUGE thank you for all of your business and support. And Chris, thanks for the nice pics on Diver.net !

I had many new items, including my new jelly fish earrings. (which will soon have a photo link) The jellyfish sold out quickly, but I promise to make more soon and get them up on the site.

I am pretty tired, so I will update again in a day or two, but I really wanted to say thanks to all of my new and past customers, as well as Margaret Webb and Kathi Woodley for helping me in my booth. And I also need to mention my wonderful husband who also made my life easier thanks to his help too.
I really liked the balloon idea, again thanks to Roger...

Long Beach SCUBA Show

It's that time a year again when 10,000 divers descend upon the Long Beach Convention Center for the Long Beach SCUBA show 2006 June 24th & 25th. I will be in booth number 428, if that helps. It's somewhere in the middle...look for the fish balloons! Tons of new fish necklaces, earrings and fun new designs with glass beads! Be sure to stop by and check it out. Yes, this actually is an update! Life in the bead world can get pretty darn busy! And that is my life at the moment...but NO complaints cuz I LOVE IT!! Thanks to everyone who came by the booth last weekend at the San Diego Bead Bazaar! It was a fantastic show and I saw quite a few Jujee Beads fans along with making new ones! I would like to thank Donna Palmer for putting on, once again, a wonderful show! I'll be back next year! I also want to thank my sister Lisa for many reasons...I couldn't do this show with out her! Lisa helps out at the booth as well as providing me with a "hotel" room at her house in north San Diego. Plus, she's the best sister I have :) Check out her pool at sunset after the show on Saturday...

Santa Barbara wine country

Last month, Roger and I spent a weekend in Santa Barbara wine country for the annual Vintner's Festival. This photo was taken outside of the ABC/Qupe wine warehouse and although it's a little windy, I thought it was a nice photo. Note if I had not been in the photo, you'd never be able to tell it was windy!!

Me teach? Why yes I did! And I had a great time too. This past weekend (April 28th & 29th) I taught officially for the first time at The Mandrel in Torrance, CA. The theme of the class was "Back to the Beach with BEADS!" and it seemed to go very well. This was an advanced class where I taught 6 different beads shapes. Everyone had a lot of fun and did extremely well too! I want to thank all of my students as well as Donna, the owner of The Mandrel for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my desire to teach lampworking.

I feel like I can finally breathe from my insane and crazy April schedule! I started the month in Las Vegas, then a small two-day craft fair, a weekend in the wine country, two meetings for the LAUPS and the L.A. Bead Society Bead Fair all the while dealing with bronchitis. What fun! So I am breathing better in a couple of ways...finally got my voice back too. This weekend, April 29 & 30th I will be teaching at The Mandrel. I think it's full, but you can call Donna for more info.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my booth, both my new and old friends! I had lots of shell sets, like my new colorful set pictured above. That one went fast! And many fun fish to choose from, like my "Oliver" fish made from olive and raku glass.

What a great show!! The Las Vegas Glass Expo 2006 was a ton of fun. Not only did we have a good show, talk to lots of fun people but I was able to spend two days taking a class with Leah Fairbanks! Leah has been working with glass for over 20 years and is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject. We learned so many new techniques and color combos, which I have already begun to apply to my beads. and of course I was at my torch first thing this morning! I will be post some photos this evening, that is if they turned out. I didn't take as many as I intended since I was just so wrapped up in the glass! I met a lot of new folks and got to visit with some bead buddies that I don't see often. It really was a great weekend. I want to thank my sister Lisa for all of her help. She really helped me have a successful show and it was fun spending time with her too! And Lisa was happy too, she walked away with $1000 from a slot machine!! WhaT ever!

So many ideas, so little time! This past week has been pretty productive! I have been getting ready for the Las Vegas Glass Expo, and the creative juices have been flowing! Check out my first Perfume Bottle.

(Okay, I'll be honest, it's not my first, but its the first one I will show!) And a creature I've been wanting to try for a while and finally got my inspiration from actually seeing a Manta Ray

in the wild on our recent trip. And last, but not least, a new album of She Sells Sea Shells!

If you are planning to be in Las Vegas for the expo, Friday I will in Leah Fairbanks class, but my sister, Lisa, will be manning my booth. I will be at my booth all day Saturday and Sunday so please stop by and say hello!

Since I have been making so many beads, I thought I would add a few fish to the Critters page including new clown fish and moorish idols. If you catch me before the show, they can be yours! I'm real happy with my new Moorish Idol beads. I used a new white glass (lauscha white from GlassDaddy) that is better when making beads like this with delicate parts. The fins are a little thicker than the first idol I made, but much sturdier, which is perfect for jewelry.

I am also excited to announce that I have been published! Two of my favorite beads, Food Chain and my Clown Trigger Fish were selected to be in the new Bead Review 2005! I just received my copy the other day and was thrilled to see not one, but both bead entries I had sent in were in the book. I was aware that "Food Chain" had been chosen, but it was a very pleasant surprise to see my Clown Trigger in the Merit Award section. How cool is that! And congrats to all of the amazing glass artists that were also published in this book. A whole book of outstanding, beautiful eye candy!!

Home from Chuuk, Pohnpei, and the Hawaii Ocean Sports Expo

Here I am! I'm home, refreshed and inspired from the best diving I have EVER experienced! Truk and Pohnpei really are 5 star, world class dive spots. Both places were just teaming with life from the large, (like mantas!) to the tiny little nudibranchs that I love so much! I could go on and on, but this is a bead site, not a SCUBA board. But I may post a trip report any way :)

As for beads and my BIG show in Hawaii, unfortunately it was not the BIG show promised to us. The attendance was very low and when the Superbowl began (1:30 HI time), I started packing up my booth. Happily the rest of our trip is a fond memory with LOTS of photos to take us back!
